Second story addition and complete remodeling of a 1922 cottage bungalow.

The new second story consists of two bedrooms and bathrooms, a laundry room, and a library that opens to the stair.  Special care was taken to minimize the scale of the addition: the side walls of the addition are only five feet high, while the two exterior siding materials (cedar bevel siding and wood shingles divided by a trim band at the level of the second floor window sills) break up the vertical surfaces.  Finishes complement the original rooms.  The new spaces have hydronic in-floor heating.

The original first floor spaces all received work: the ceiling of the living room was raised; built-in bookcases and wood trim were added to the dining room; the bath was reconfigured and new finishes and fixtures were added; both bedrooms received new finishes; and the kitchen was reconfigured.  The new kitchen features custom cabinets, soapstone counters, and cork flooring.
The general contractor was Kinetic Construction.

Completed summer 2002.
